Today’s requests include a mixed bag reflecting the food the pantry families hope to eat again: Baked Beans, Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix, and Canned Whole Kennel Corn.

When the pantry customers come in, Sarah and some volunteers often invite their visitors to sit down and tell the pantry what they and their families want and need.

These talks inform Sarah of her requests, which is why the things we send often disappear quickly—they are wanted, not simply taken or left, which is usually their choice.

Beans and corn are healthy foods that contain protein and other vitamins. Of course, this is a dignity issue, and many customers have come from very different food pantries where they have few or no choices and are not asked what they or their children might want.
