Bird Reprieve. We Are Keeping the Feeders UP

by Jon Katz

As I mentioned in my email, I love taking bird photos, and people love seeing them. Yesterday, I said it was time to take the feeder down, and I regretted it. So we put the feeders back up this morning, and we’ll see what happens. I would have missed these photos a lot, and I think many of you would have also missed them. I’ll keep it up as long as they eat from them.

  1. I am more of a bird person than a flower person so I love seeing your bird photos. That Goldfinch one is perfection!

  2. You are lucky to be able to still feed them. Over here in the Berkshires the bears tear the feeders down as soon as you hang them, day and night. Winters have gotten overall warmer, so the bears are now on the prowl all winter. It’s a shame, the birds need the help right now as they begin nesting and there are still not a lot of food sources for them. I really miss feeding them! Bears are routinely breaking into garages, houses and even cars here now. It’s sad, as they have become desensitized to humans and are learning that bird feeders and garbage are their food sources, and it’s our fault. I so miss my bird feeders and I hope the bears continue to stay away from your area.

        1. We’ve never had a bear or a coyote and anywhere near the pasture the donkey scream if they see one, the donkeys are so sweet easy to care for and loving much like dogs only smarter
