Merton was and is one of the most important influences in my life. His writing brought me out of paralysis and fear into my new life. He inspired me to find the courage to change.
He also first suggested to me in his writing that the beauty in nature and flowers could change me if I opened to them. Once in a lifetime, he wrote, we get to stop and ask ourselves where we want to go or change. We either follow the call, he wrote, or we don’t. So here I am.
