We both got exhausted from working seven days a week, all day and some of the night. We were wearing out. I came up with the idea of taking most of the weekend off; she came up with the idea of going out every Saturday to see something interesting—a concert, movies, concerts, a show, a museum, a neat new restaurant, Botanical gardens, or boat rides up the Hudson as spring comes. Spring gives us a lot of choices.
We are off to a great start. Last week, we visited a museum and a phenomenal new Thai restaurant in Albany and then walked the streets. Today was a hit; it was one of the most beautiful art shows ever. This was a show of Modern French Tapestries from the Mibilier National Institute in Paris. It blew both of us away. We were in awe of how it was possible to make such beautiful art by hand. The tapestries were often quite vast and complex.
The show was at the nearby Clark Institute of Art in Williamstown. We followed the exhibit with a visit to our favorite Mexican restaurant. The wood was great, and we enjoyed sitting and talking. Now, we are sitting and reading. It feels perfect.
The Clark is an excellent museum, but on the outside, it looks to me like a Danish Prison and is about as interesting. Their recent mamssive renevation left a cold and often empthy shell of a museum, at least on the outside.
Instead, it always has beautiful stuff and a terrific permanent collection. It’s always worth going there, and it will be on our list of regular visits. I’m hoping Mass MOCa is next once again (and the excellent Korean restaurant nearby)
Life is enjoyable if you take the time to enjoy it. It’s not enough to work. Creativity is all about recharging and thinking in silence and beauty..
This was my favorite; it is jaw-dropping up close.
Any museum transfixes Maria, but she was in awe of the tapestry work. Museums are like fuel to her. Me too, she has taught me a lot about art.
I couldn’t get enough of this exhibit, and I’m already thinking about next week. I will share this experience today and then go back to my books. If I get the itch, I’ll put up a flower photo; if not, I’ll briefly see you in the morning. That’s also going to be a half-day.
gorgeous photos, Jon……of the museum and exhibit….and hearing of the joy of your day! My day was not good today overall…….(you likely know why)…..but…..my greatest joy (and I do try to find some each day) was sitting here at computer looking out window…..and seeing 3 huge JackRabbits…….frolicking under our apricot tree….happily standing upright and plucking and eating blossoms off the tree…….I smiled…..and said *you go, rabbits!*……….and it may seem a small joy to some…..but for me…..it made my day. Enjoy the rest of your *down* time………..
