A Pantry First, The Power Of Good: Lisa DrivesFrom Connecticut To The Cambridge Pantry With A Carload Of Diapers And Muffin Mixes. People Are Good. (Diaper Crisis Continues)

by Jon Katz

Two days ago, I got this message from Lisa, who lives in Connecticut: “Tra la diapers and muffin mixes came to MY house today (CT). I messed up on ✔️food pantry address! LUCKILY, I will be in Bennington this weekend for a ski trip! See you Friday with my goodies!”

(Above, Lisa, an angel in disguise.)

She wasn’t kidding. I answered and gave her the Pantry’s Cambridge address, and Friday afternoon, she showed up with boxes of stuff.

(Bulletin, Urgent Need: Sarah says the diaper crisis continues; they are out of two sizes.

Bello Diapers, Size 6, 35 lbs, Disposable and Hypo-Allergenic, $10.99.

Bello Premium Baby Diapers, Size 5, 18 Count of Disposable, Hypoallergenic, Extra-Absorbent, Alphabet Soup, $10.99.)

Sarah was shocked and grateful to meet Lisa.

This was a first,” she said. “She got a full tour!” That is an excellent compliment from Sarah  (I never got one. 🙂

The donation with the wrong address went to Lisa’s house in Connecticut, a three-hour drive from her home. This was the pantry’s first such incident.

As I write this, the diapers and the mixes are on the pantry shelves and going out into the world where they belong.

Like many in the Army of Good, Lisa is all about good and generosity. She wouldn’t stand for the diaper shortage to continue. Although she has been a member of the Army of Good for years, I have never met or spoken with her. Sarah said she’s a wonderful human being.

More support is arriving as I write this.

Volunteer Kyle, with Amazon driver, and the big load from the Army of Good that arrived this afternoon. Thanks.

Sarah often says the Army of Good is a blessing for the food pantry. They are a blessing to us, too. We get to do good daily and stay grounded and optimistic. You are all spirits shining on us.

As long as there are people like Lisa in the world and the pantry volunteers,  everything will be okay. Thanks, Lisa. You are a light and a warrior for good. I’m so grateful to be associated with these people; they are the true America.
