Today is a unique chance to help a food pantry, stack the backpack kids’ bags with the healthiest breakfast, and do the same for the pantry families. Today’s urgency is for oatmeal to reach the backpack kids by the end of next week.
Sarah’s other requests are beans (see below). These are three of the healthiest foods available, and the oatmeals are a special gift for the 150 children enrolled in the backpack program, which feeds them healthy snacks for the weekend when school kitchens are closed. The bean items are just below.
(The Urgent Item For Today: Due to circumstances beyond their control, the pantry’s weekly backpack program requests that Oatmeal be sent to the backpack kids for breakfast. They are asking for our help. I asked her what her most urgent need was each day, and we tried to meet it. So far, so good.
Yesterday, the urgent need was diapers, and the Army of Good came through big time (Thank You). Sarah says it is stocked. Today, the urgent need is oatmeal.
The families need a warm healthy breakfast for their children, but it’s been very cold for weeks.
For the kids:
Quaker Instant Oatmeal, 4 Flavor Variety Pack, Individual Packets, 48 Count, $15.41.)
Oatmeal is a good source of soluble fiber, beta-glucan. This fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes fullness, and supports gut health. Oatmeal also contains essential vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, zinc, iron, and B vitamins. It is whole grain with several benefits.
For the families, beans:
Sarah requests pantry support and the drive for warm, healthy meals during this icy weather. Thanks for anything you can do.
Old El Paso Traditional Canned Refried Beans, 1 Can, 16 Oz, (Pack of 12), $12.38.
Van Camp’s Original Baked Beans, Canned Beans, 15 Oz, (Pack of 12), $16.20.
According to my research source, AI Overview, beans are also considered a healthy food choice. Beans are high in fiber, which helps promote digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, and support gut health.
Thanks for your messages to the volunteers at the food pantry above. I would appreciate them. More is on the way. Thanks. We’re getting a lot. I hope we can keep it up.
If the news upsets you, go instead to the Cambridge Pantry Amazon Food Wish List; it will instantly lift your spirits and keep them up during the chaos. The pantry says everything on the Wis List is urgent. I can testify to that. We can tell our children and grandchildren that we helped the people with nowhere else to go, just as Jesus asked.
