Over the holidays, the donations to the Cambridge Food Pantry were enormous and, at times, overwhelming. It was a beautiful thing to see and feel, yet it was a challenge for the volunteers, many of whom were still away visiting families or traveling. Donated food had piled up all week, and there was more of it than anyone expected. When I saw the pictures awaiting unpacking and distribution, I rushed over to the pantry and started taking profiles of the people who make it all work, Sarah and the volunteers, and now, people in the Army Of Good.
These volunteers came rushing in early on Friday and stayed most of the day, hauling boxes, opening them, recording their contents, distributing them, and filling the shelves. A week ago, that would have seemed impossible. Today, the shelves were nearly overflowing. They need to get the recognition they deserve, and you people out there need to be satisfied with seeing what you have done. This story is about good and ordinary people doing good; you can see it in their faces and hopefully in my pictures.
We’re not raising money in this post, just love and respect.
All ages
Men and women.
A dedicated leader.
A hard worker.
A silent and shy worker.
Sarah’s work never ends. “Whoa,” she said when she saw the photos of the boxes arriving from Amazon.
Lots of smiles. It feels good to do good.
Unpacking the food, a familiar face.
Messages from the Army of Goods to the Food Pantry from the Amazon checkout page keep pouring in. They are so much appreciated; please keep them coming if you can.
