Color And Light: In Honor Of A Dying Mother, And A Daughter Who Made Her Smile.

by Jon Katz

Jon,
I have enjoyed your blog since the very beginning. I always shared your photos with my mother of Simon and Red and continued through the years with all the animals and Maria’s art, but when you started posting your flower photos, my mom fell in love with them. She recently passed away 7 weeks ago with dementia and Alzheimers. We started every morning looking at your beautiful photos, which always made her smile. I loved that I could share something with my mom every day that was as beautiful as your photos… I wanted to thank you again.
Wendy.”

Wendy, I can’t think of a more beautiful way to begin the week or any day. Thanks so much for writing this to me; your mother was fortunate to have a caring daughter like you, and how you made her smile is uplifting.  This is not a sad story for me, but a beautiful one; I smiled along with the two of you. This flower is for you. Amid all the arguing and hatred, you remind us of the human heart’s power and a flower’s power to touch it. I am working hard to make the blog safe and comforting; you help me see that it may just be happening. Your message reminds us to be human in the midst of turmoil.
