Sarah’s Request For Help In Starting The Day In A Healthy Way: Coffee And Juice

by Jon Katz

Starting the day on a solid note is crucial for the members of the Cambridge Pantry. Psychologists affirm that this is the most critical time of day for individuals and families facing challenges like depression and stress. Sarah believes – knows –  that a cup of coffee is a vital part of the morning routine for parents striving to provide enough food for their families.

It’s a matter of hope and morale.

Thanks again for the tremendous response to our call for canned vegetables; it was a great success. The Army Of Good strikes again.

(Above, the Cambridge Pantry and its volunteers prepare for Christmas, a tough time for families.)

Here are Sarah’s two requests for today, Saturday

V8 Splash Tropical Blend, Flavored Juice Beverage, 64 fl oz Bottle, $2.28.

Amazon Fresh Hazelnut Flavored Coffee, Ground Medium Roast, 12 Ounce (Pack of 3) $14.73.

Yes, eating a strong breakfast is suitable for people, especially those under stress and struggling for food. Doctors say it’s the most important meal of the day: Here’s why:
    • Replenishes energy: Breakfast replenishes your body’s energy stores and blood sugar levels, which can help you feel more alert and energetic.
    • Improves focus: Breakfast can help you concentrate and focus better.
    • Boosts metabolism: Breakfast can help kickstart your metabolism, which can help you burn calories throughout the day.
    • Helps with weight management: Eating breakfast can help with weight management.
  • Provides nutrients: Breakfast gives you the opportunity to get vitamins and nutrients from healthy foods like fruits, grains, and dairy.

Dot wrote from Connecticut: “I’m so glad you continue to post these appeals for your food bank. Here, in our part of CT, we received the horrible news that our food bank/soup kitchen discovered yesterday that their commercial cooler had failed, and they had to toss hundreds of pounds of fresh produce and meats into the dumpsters. It’s such a challenge for them to begin with, and now this.

I wrote back to Dot and told her I’m not going anywhere. I’m in for good. I post the pantry appeals every single day of the week and will continue for as long as I can. I think the same is true of the Army of Good. Every day of the year, Christmas included.

Some pantry shelves are empty; government support is sharply cutting back.
