“In Daily Life, we are often lost in thought. We get lost in regrets about the past and fears about the future. We get lost in our plans, our anger, and our anxiety. At such moments, we cannot really be here for ourselves. We are not really here for life.
Practice makes it possible for us to be free – to rid ourselves of these obstacles and establish ourselves firmly in the present moment. Practice gives us methods we can use to help us live fully in the present.” -Thich Nhat Hanh
On this cold and rainy day, I got lost in my anxiety. I decided to take my new Calla lilies outside on the dark and gray porch and establish myself firmly in the present moment. Taking the photos, I was fine, at peace, here for life. I was where I belonged in the moment. It felt good. I am feeling better. Practice gives me methods to use. My flowers are here now; Maria sits beside me, dogs at my feet. There is nothing but good. See you in the morning.
I have been blessed to know calla lilies all my life from photos, my mother’s wedding bouquet was white calla lilies.
Jon, I am loving your calla lily pictures. They feel mysterious and magical to me, with their soft curves and intricate interiors. I am turning my gaze and my thoughts to what is beautiful and meaningful in my life, which melts my anxiety. The practice of being present to what I am doing, and reminding myself to do that helps me stay in the now, rather than the scary future, or the can’t-be-changed past. I just want peace, and that is well within my ability to create. Thank you for your lovely pictures as my morning muse.
