AOG Strikes Again Yesterday: Cambridge Pantry Requests: Paper Day, Not Flashy But Critical: Towel Paper, ($6.84) And Toilet Paper, ($12.49)

by Jon Katz

I was surprised to learn that paper products – paper towels and toilet paper- are among the most difficult for any food pantry to get, and obviously, one of the most vital things for families to want and use and need.

(The generosity of the Army Of Good surprises me every day. The photos above and below were taken by Kyle and Kris, both volunteers, who stay well into the night unpacking and sorting the donations of the Army Of Good. They are angels, as are the people who send them every day all week, when most people were otherwise distracted.)

These items are very expensive to order,” Sarah told me, “and we found out that our budget is smaller than we thought.” Which means every item we can send makes it easier for them to get some of the things that are needed but too costly for them.

I can only imagine the tough choices these families make when it come too choosing toilet paper over produce and other things.

Food pantries, heavily subsided during the Pandemic, are seeing their allotments and budgets slashed again and again. I feel like we arrived just in the nick of time to help. We can’t purchase everything, but we can do an awful lot of good.

Please help is you can, and thank you so much.

Here are the paper products no longer possible for the pantry to get regularly.

Scott Paper Towels, Choose-A-Sheet, 6 Double Rolls = 12 regular rolls (100 Sheets Per Roll), $6.48.

Angel Soft Toilet Paper, 16 Mega Rolls, Soft And Strong Toilet Tissue, $12.49.

When I hear the stories of the members who come to the food pantrym I think that they have suffered enough. Every single thing we send there easies the pain and allows the pantry to do more.

Words are difficult to express the gratitude and appreciation that is felt. One pantry volunteer says that we are a blessing, a miracle, and begs me to express thanks.

Lots of people out there are browsing the Cambridge Pantry Amazon Food Wish List on their own, choosing the things they want to send. Everything on the Wish List is urgently needed, the list is revised all day. Thanks for the help, I hope these photos help you to grasp the difference you are making.

You can access the wish list and choose your donations any time, day and night. I find donations profoundly healing and calming. Doing good feels very good in a world that often feels troubled and angry.
