The Pantry “Wipe Out” Is Over. You Just Filled The Shelves. You Are The Heroes Of Good. Bless You A Thousuand Times

by Jon Katz

These photos were taken this afternoon at 4 p.m. by Sarah Harrington, Executive Director of the Cambridge Food Pantry. They represent a huge load of food and other items that mostly vanished from the pantry shelves last week in a record-breaking rush of people who needed food support.

I wrote about it on the blog, hoping we could help. I was happy beyond words to see what the Internet can mean to people when it is used for good rather than arguing, hating, and spreading lies. Imagine what could happen if political candidates each raised money for the poor people in North Carolina and the hundreds of struggling food pantries rather than drowning the rest of us in pleas for cash and name-calling.

Just look at all the food that came into the Pantry on Amazon trucks today. More will be coming tomorrow, and blogs can do much good.

The idea behind the Army Of Good, founded in 2016, was to do good rather than argue about what good us. You wouldn’t know it to follow the media or most of the candidates running for office, but that idea lives and is at the heart of America.

You are the heroes of good now.

I have run out of words to express my gratitude, Sarah’s appreciation, the dedicated volunteers’ gratitude, and the ever-lasting and heartfelt gratitude of the people who depend on the food pantry and its supporters for food.

Your support is not just a drop in the ocean but a ripple reaching far and wide. You are restoring dignity and choice to the idea of a food pantry, making the lights stay on at the dinner tables of the many people in America who can not afford to pay supermarket prices in 2024.

Compassion lives, the Compassion Revolution is underway.

Perhaps someone will finally do something about this, but God bless you for always caring and responding. I hope you know how much you are appreciated and how much you mean to the hundreds of people who depend on the pantry and its supporters for food.

Thanks to your support and generosity, the shelves at the next big serving at the Pantry will be completed on Wednesday.

I’m going to the pantry in the morning to take more pictures of the food and other items you sent.
