Salad Day At The Cambridge Pantry, French, $1.99, Honey Mustard, $1.99, Blue Cheese, $2.09, Ranch, $1.99. Today, We Can Make SOME Dreams Come True

by Jon Katz

Thanks much for your work getting the book back on the Cambridge Pantry shelves. Sarah removed all but six items from the Wish List and pivoted to the following popular but scarce item: salad dressings. She’d appreciate some help and thanks you for your compassion and support.

Today, we’re trying to finally get some salad dressing on the shelves and keep it there for at least a week. We’re focusing on three kinds of dressing, all of them under $3.

These are country people; salad goes with everything they can afford, and they miss it when it’s gone.

Here’s a list of the ones she needs and that are the most popular, four items:

Happy Belly California French Style Dressing, 16 fl oz (Pack of 10), $1.99.

Honey Mustard Dressing, 16 fl oz, Pack of 1, $1.99.

Blue Cheese Dressing, 16 fl. oz, $2.09.

Light Ranch Dressing, 16 fl oz (Pack of 1),$1.99.

Jon’s Surprise Amazon Bargain. I found a very inexpensive one. Tide and Velveeta, two of the most popular items,  are still on the wish list.

“Salad dressings never meant a lot to me until I couldn’t afford them,” one visitor to the pantry told one of the volunteers. This experience has been significant; I know about poor people’s struggles, but learning about them personally is transformative.

I’ll never take my good fortune for granted.

I added one more item to the list because it is difficult for the pantry to obtain and because it is inexpensive—a good choice for adoption.

Hunt’s Meat Pasta Sauce, 24 oz, (Pack of 1), $1.34.

You can access the Cambridge Food Pantry Amazon Wish List anytime, day or night. The list is updated constantly, and everything is either gone or unavailable. The number of people coming to the pantry is breaking all their records.

You can access the wish list by going to the green button at the bottom of every web post on this blog.

Thanks for your sustained support. When I began this project, many people at the food pantry wondered if we would stay with them or if the support was just an early impulse. They are not asking me that anymore.

I told them the Army of Goods stayed with the issues they felt were the most important. They, like me, are grateful for a chance to be helpful. Thank you so much; you are helping to bring light into lives that can feel dark.
