Saturday’sPantry “Wipe Out Response:” Velveeta, $7.47 Tide, $5.50, Pineapple Juice, $2.28, Stuffing $1.29. Weekend Specials

by Jon Katz

I said we were seeking the same three things all weekend, but many of those have come in. Thank you.

I see our all-time inexpensive but absolutely favorite items have come up again on the Cambridge Food Pantry Amazon Wish List, a sure sign that the pantry is out of these items. This is not surprising since an all-time record-breaking number of people came to the pantry seeking help for food deprivation.

Sarah only lists things she is not able to get or afford elsewhere. Sarah is also working on a new storage space to store the items coming in.

Today, Sarah is off, and I’m stepping in with three urgent requests. These items, which you may be familiar with, are again unavailable to the food pantry through their usual food banks and sources. Just a few days ago, the pantry had a record-breaking 184 people seeking food for their families at the pantry.

We’ve got excellent and exceptional prices for the items we need. If you can help, great; if not, no sweat. Please help when and if you can. I want to express my gratitude for your past contribution.

Your support has been invaluable, and we truly appreciate what you have already done. Your past contributions have made a significant difference, and we are grateful for your continued support.

My six urgent pantry items for today, Sunday, September 29, 2024, need replacement. These items are not just necessities but lifelines for those in need. Most cost pennies; I have a feeling we can help once again. The other day, Sarah was wringing her hand after the record crowd hit the food service.

Your immediate help can make a significant difference in the lives of those who rely on the pantry for their daily meals. Please have a restful Sunday. I woke up thinking of the day Sarah called the “wipeout,” so I thought I should send some of the most popular items to her shelves this week, perhaps surprise her when she returns to work.

Item One:

Velveeta Shells $ Cheese Sauce Meal (3ct Pack), 12 Oz. Boxes, $7.47.

Tide Liquid Landry Detergent, Hygienic Clea Heavy Duty, 21 Loads, 34 F. Oz.

Juice Cocktail, Cranberry Plastic Bottle, 64 fl oz, Pack of 1, $2.76.

Au Gratin Potatoes, 4.7 oz, $1.49.

Campbell’s Chunky Soup, New England Clam Chowder, 16.3 Oz (Case of 8), $15.68.

Stuffing Mix Chicken Flavor, 6 Oz, $1.29.

If the people reading this could pick out one or two items to send, the shelves would be filling up quickly.

You can browse and access the Cambridge Food Pantry Amazon Wish List anytime by clicking the green button at the bottom of every blog post. Thank you. Feel free to make your own choices.  And remember, the volunteers love getting the messages you are sending. Everything on the list is urgently needed.

You’ve made an enormous difference at the pantry, fast becoming a nationwide role model for food pantries. Bless you all. See you tomorrow, Monday.
