Food Pantry: Want To Feel Good Today Instead Of Worrying? Vote For Humanity – Buy Some Sliced Carrots For The Hungry, $09, Or Ultra-Thin Pads For Single-Family Mothers, $4.97, Or Hand Soap Or Carrots?

by Jon Katz

I’m getting my values in order today. I will do something meaningful for people with no one to turn to but us.

I will do my work, take pictures, and raise money for the pantry. I’ll skip the debate; it reminds me too much of the Lion-Human Fighting Contests in the Roman Coliseum. I’ll feel perfect, not angry or frightened. I highly recommend it.

It isn’t that I don’t care about politics—I do—it’s just that I don’t want to see our politics turned into a wrestling match or killing field. I’ll work hard to do some good instead.

I have a miracle cure for hysteria and fear.

Single-family mothers who come to the Cambridge Food Pantry need our help, as do their children. They need pads for periods ($4.87), size five diapers ($9.94), paper towels ($7.28), and hand soap (6)- $7.74).

The more I see Sarah, the more I like and respect her. Her vision is to transform the musty old pantry building into something warm, bright, and welcoming, which is not what most food pantries do.

She’s doing most of that herself; she is a designer by training. And she cares deeply about the people she helps. (Above photo: Sarah painting a mural at the pantry entrance.)

None of these are expensive; all are needed.

I can’t think of a more patriotic or significant thing to do on this very tense day than to help people struggling with hunger. I also can’t resist putting up another item in great demand but not on the shelves—canned Sliced Parrots, on sale on the wish list for $0.09—yes, less than a dollar—for a very short time.

For me, this is what America is all about. This is what patriotism is. This is what America is.

My political stance today is to buy one of these items and send it to the Cambridge Food Pantry via the Cambridge Pantry Amazon Wish List.

Here goes, a lot of chances to do a lot of good. Pick the ones that work for you and your bank account:

Sparkle Paper Towels, Spirited Prints, 6 Double Rolls With Full And Half Sheets:, $7.28.

Softsoap Liquid Hand Soup, 7.5 fluid Oz, Pack of 6, $7.74.

Ultra Think Pads For Periods, Long Length, Super Absorbency, Unscented, Super Absorbency, Size 2, 32 Count, 1 Pack., $4.87.

Huggies Size 5 Diapers, Little Snugglers Baby Diapers, 27 plus pounds, 19 Count, $9.94.

And before I forget:

Amazon Fresh, Canned Sliced Carrots, 14.5 Oz, $0.99.

I need help to pass up the special price.

Thanks to you, the tomato shelf is full.

Thanks. For the first time ever, there is enough tide to last a week or two.

Remember, you can view or browse the Cambridge Food Pantry Amazon Wish List anytime. You can also access the list day or night by clicking the green pantry button at the bottom of every blog post.

Thank you. This week has been challenging for the food pantry, but you have helped more than you know.
