An Especially Beautiful Morning, Monday, September 9, 2024. Mist, Emotion, Love, Life

by Jon Katz

Today is a substantial test of my spiritual life. The Debate has frightened or divided almost everyone I know. Today is one of those days when I’ll learn if my spiritual work has taken hold. I believe in truth, love, and decency; they will ultimately prevail, no matter what happens tonight.

It’s easy enough to talk about the spiritual path; it’s harder to live it. I intend to try today and tonight. Happiness does not come from politics and arguments. Our country is a sad place right now.

This morning, the farm was shrouded in a beautiful mist. Zip was everywhere, as usual; he is a Barn Cat through and through. He always has two bowls of fresh water in the barn; he prefers water in the mud from the rain. That’s a Barn Cat; they use everything and don’t depend on humans for everything, as most dogs do.

I love taking photos in the mist. I was thrilled to be a photographer in the fog this morning.

The daily manure throw.

Sunrise this morning.

Zip is faithful to her work.

The sheep love the apple tree; they love the apples this year.

Zip gets his nose into anything. He has charmed all animals here; the Peaceful Kingdom has absorbed him.

Maria and Zip walk in the mist.

Fanny is waiting for an apple to fall.

Morning mist.

  1. Beautiful photos! The changing of the seasons are always magical from start to finish. The mist on cool mornings , the beautiful webs of the orb weavers in the garden mark the beginning of fall for me. They speak to the continuum of life on earth. Unfortunately, in the midst of all our country’s political challenges we have lost our continuum of peaceful transfer of power as well as our faith that our democracy will always be here. As you said John, all we can do is continue to believe that eventually love and decency will win out…..and of course VOTE.

  2. Hauntingly beautiful photographs…. Wow

Thank you for your thoughts and these magical images. The first of Maria made me *gasp*… and pause… No words rattled in my too-busy mind! Thank you for helping me have a rare, peaceful, quiet moment. The joy of the gift of art.

  3. an especially beautiful tribute to Maria—
and Zip [tails up!]…and the Peaceable Kingdom you and Maria have created,,,,,
