Pantry Support: It’s Cleaning Day – Dish Soap, $3.44, Disenfectant Spray, $2.32. The Families Are Pleading For Them

by Jon Katz

Sarah’s request for today—I’m calling it “Cleaning Day”—is for two items in particular, along with anything else you might choose to send from today’s Cambridge Food Pantry Amazon Wish List, now accessible 24 hours a day from the green button at the bottom of this and every other post on my blog—bottom right corner.

Above, a widened shelf was put up yesterday, and the top rows (and some bottom ones) were filled with Army of Good donations.

The green button at the bottom of every blog post links directly to the Pantry Wish List,  updated several times daily.

The link works 24/7 and can be accessed at any time to browse the list or donate their own choices.

This was a request from Army of Good members to me. People want to help. It’s a great thing to browse when you see the news and can’t sleep. Doing good helps.

Sarah and her volunteers spent hours yesterday expanding and installing new shelves, increasing the number of items they can offer people who come for help. Sarah got the shelves from a hardware store that was being renovated.

In addition, I’ll post the urgently needed items every day. The wish list includes foods and other items that are too expensive for Pantry customers and too expensive for the pantry.

You can choose one or the other, or both or none. It’s in your hands, as it should be.

Here are today’s item requests. These are at the request of the Pantry families that come for help. Many are single-women households, and they are especially eager for cleaning tools.

l. Gain Ultra Dishwashing Liquid Dish Soap, 38 fl. oz, $3.44.

2. Windex Multi-surface Cleaner and Disinfectant Spray Kills 99.9 percent of Germs, Viruses, and Bacteria, $2.32.

The second expanded shelf was put up on Tuesday. It’s twice the size of the former shelf and contains bread and household items. It’s also full of items the Army Of Goods rushed to the pantry when they lost Tuesday’s food delivery. Thanks so much. Sarah says you are “amazing.” She’s right.

Note: The families who come to the food pantry for help say they constantly have to choose between food and essential household items like cleaners. “When I run out of money for food,” one mother told me,” I can’t buy things like cleaners and disinfectants. I hope  you can send some to the pantry; nobody wants a dirty home.’

This is a question of dignity, pride, and cleanliness. I hope we can help. The wish list is available here, or you can click the green button at the end of this post.
