SOS: This Week, A Genuine Crisis: The Food Pantry Is In Trouble For Next Wednesday, It’s Biggest Day. The State Pantry Bank Can’t Make It This Week. Sarah As Asking For Donations Of Anything On The List, Whatever We Can Do

by Jon Katz

So here’s the crisis for the pantry, not the first, not the last..

This weekend, Sarah expects once again to be overwhelmed by the growing number of families – 30 and 40 per cent more some days – coming to the Food Pantry for help. Grocery process are doubling and tripling and more and more people just can’t pay their bills, especially the soaring grocery and electricity bills.

They can’t afford to buy the things on Sarah’s Wish List. We are trying to fill the gaps.

These expenses (one family got a $600 electric bill, the father has cancer and needs the ACon) as a richocheting affect on these families. They can no longer afford to buy what Carol calls “niceties” like tea and coffeee. These  things are important to them for many reasons, the rising cost of things has made it impossible to buy their own..

We were going to ask for those two items this weekend, but today when I was visiting the pantry and taking photos of the things the Army of Good has been sending, Sarah looked upset, she  told me she feared for this Wednesday, the busies day of the week for the Cambridge Food Pantry. The food bank that brings most of their food on Tuesday of the week, is not coming until Thursday next week.

This is a big crisis for us,” she said, “we now need every single thing on the Wish List Below or we will have little to offer these people. There may be a lot of things not on the shelves. (Maria is offering to help by making a “coffee” potholder, proceeds to the pantry. Details below.)

So I’m putting up the entire existing Pantry Wish List, urging the Army Of Good to browse through the list and send what you want,  and can, if anything. Sarah says she needs for this whole list to go. Fortunately the list is quite inexpensive.

Rather than just choose two items, we’re choosing the hole list in the hope that people will buy what they can, if they can.

I had to be dramatic, but this is serious. I hope we can send her one or more of any items on the list so that families coming Wednesday will get the things they need, and some thet want badly or miss having.

So yes, this is another SOS. I hope we can help them before Wednesday. Here is the Cambridge Amazon Pantry Wish List.

Sarah needs every one of the items but is asking we choose what we can, and thanks for that. Whatever you can do will be much appreciated and very much needed.

As I drove up to the pantry today, Bernie of UPS had just brought the third box of food pantry juices, baby diapers, tampons and pads, dental paste for dentures, pastas and dinners.

I took some photos of all the things arriving yesterday and today: bless all of  you.

Diaper Day, three truck loads so far.

Juices for the summer, seven boxes.

Three new loads for the wish list came today. This was the third of them.

Sarah is bringing in food for a local pantry, hoping to build up.

She asked for Tide and mouthwash. They came yesterday and today.

Thanks for the juices, very good for the children this summer.

Maria made a coffee potholder today to support the pantry food drive, the sale will go to the Food Pantry, the cost is $18.47 plus $5 shipping. The e-mail is [email protected].
