Flower Art, Inside The Heart Of Some Wildflowers, Thursday, July 1, 2024. The Whole Point Of Politics

by Jon Katz

On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and a downright moron will adorn the White House.” –  H.L. Mencken

Today, I focused my flower art on some new wildflowers; they are distinctive and full of life. I love looking deeper into the flowers; there is a spiritual connection I’m still trying to understand. Still, I love this photographer and look forward to it every day. Maria has opened me up to the exceptional beauty of wildflowers, some of which is reflected today.

Tomorrow, the end of the week, once more. I have some excellent books to read, and we are plotting a visit to Mass MoCA tomorrow or Sunday; we are members. Just to let you know, I’m doing some brief but more frequent observations on what is happening politically.

I find it too interesting to resist, and I have some perspective to offer that I don’t see much in the media. The media tends to cover the election like the NFL or other competitive sports. There is a lot of hysteria and very little sanity or clarity.

I think I can be helpful sometimes. Like H.L. Mencken, I tend to think of politics as strange and funny. I am viscerally opposed to hysteria.

He is my hero in political writing; he believed politics to be serious but should not be taken too seriously. We do sometimes take it too seriously. When I think about it, I often end up laughing.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.’  – H.L. Mencken.

Signing Off, see you in the morning.
