The Still Water Of My Heart

by Jon Katz

For me, today is a day of healing and reflection. My spider bite wounds are finally quieting, and I slept well last night. This morning, I’m going to the Sunday service at the food pantry.

I need a few hours in a place of worship every now and then to feed my spiritual searching.

The spider attack was frightening and intense, but I give thanks for recovery as I heal. I am nothing but fortunate.

Everything around me—the flowers, the trees, Maria, the animals, Zip, the dogs and donkeys, the sheep and the wind, the birds, the hills and mountains—everything inside of me and around me reflects itself back to me and touches the heart.

I don’t have to go anywhere or do anything to find my truth. All I need is to be still, and as the prophet wrote, “All things will reveal themselves in the still water of our heart.”
