Bud At Rest.I See Sorrow In His Face

by Jon Katz

Bud went through a lot before we got him. I sometimes see the sorrow in his wise face, but that could be a projection. That face is impossible to resist.

  1. Jon, BUD has NOT forgotten one minute of his life BEFORE. He remembers but can still love his life on the farm. He knows the past hurt but does not diminish his appreciation of his current situation. He doubly enjoys life with you, Maria and the critters.

  2. I don’t doubt that Bud has *some* recollection of his past abusive life….and there may be certain things or sounds that might still trigger those memories on rare occaision? but perhaps you *may* be projecting a bit in reading his expressive face as being sorrowful? Every Boston Terrier I’ve ever known (and I know 3 currently who belong to friends) ALL have that same expression! It’s those big, soulful eyes! Bud is a fortunate dog to be living his good life with you and Maria…..and you are fortunate to have his sweet, vibrant terrier self as part of your life!

    1. Thanks, Sharon. I think this is true, but once in a while, he offers me a sad face that goes to my heart. He suffered horribly before he got up here; maybe it’s just me projecting.

  3. I adopted a Labrador Retriever recently and I don’t know anything about her history except that she had recently had puppies at 7 years of age. She has that same soulful look and follows me everywhere.

  4. No doubt Bud remembers his past here in Arkansas (and I apologize deeply for his treatment as there are puppy mills in the state and we have tougher laws now but still have some mills falling under the radar). He has known a much better life with you and Maria though. To me his gaze is soulful and loving towards you. It’s hard to not project sometimes with our pets, I do it too!! Much love to you and Bud!!
