I love this poem by Pablo Neruda; it captures my feelings about animals like Zip and my own life—this may be why Zip and I connected so quickly and became friends. Zip wants nothing more than to be a cat, and I want nothing more than to be me, not someone others want me to be.

“But the cat
wants nothing more than to be a cat,
and every cat is a pure cat
from its whiskers to its tail,
from sixth sense to squirming rat,
from nighttime to its golden eyes.”
from Ode to the cat by Pablo Neruda
Love this and Pablo Neruda.
As I sit here pondering my fun and fiercely independent cat!
Zip lives the life he wants, and we are so lucky to be voyeurs. ♥️
This is coincidence! I meant the other day to send the poem to you in full because it reminds me of cats in general but Zip most particularly, but I got sidetracked.
Thanks, Renae, the poem nails it, for Zip and for me..
What a great photo of Zip Maria took! Cats are great watchers.
Addendum:
But the cat
wants nothing more than to be a cat,
. . .
from nighttime to its golden eyes.”
Nothing’s more wonderful than that.
