Jon, you asked what readers thought about the two flower photos -one in black and white and one in color. I was prepared to say the one in color because I love color BUT the more I looked the more the black and white one seemed to have more depth and the ability to let one imagine what all the forms might be.
PS I once voted against the red borders on your blog pages but I have come to rather like them now. Thanks for all you do !
I like the black and white photo. I like the contrast of black and white. It gives the picture depth into the flower itself. You can almost feel the curl of the petals. Good photos.
The color is nice, but the B&W is dramatic! I was trying to figure out the focal point (nerdy alert!) and then realized I didn’t need to know, because I like the effect! Very cool!
The flowers were begging that I choose–which would it be? For a moment I let my mind wander and then I realized that the colored one left no room for my imagination, which my mother always insisted that I didn’t have, and I found the black and white one could be any color I wished. the color choice was limitless. So I chose the black and white for what might be. The color I chose would make the picture more mine. In my mind there is a bouquet of many colors and their beauty unsurpassed. That is where your picture has taken me. Thank you.

I seem to be in the minority here. The black-and-white doesn’t capture my interest the way the subtle gradations of hue in the color photo do.
That’s fine, Jean, we are all entitled to our opinions, and I appreciate yours…We aren’t taking a poll
Both photos are so good. I love monochrome, but also love the subdued tones in the color version. As a fellow photographer, I enjoy working in both.
