Flower Art, 2024. New Flowers To Share, My Color And Light For Tomorrow, And Then Some

by Jon Katz

I couldn’t do much today, but I got down to the florist and picked up a few new flowers along with the Irises; they are called Alstroemeria. The Cambridge Flower Shop is a blessing.

When I am taking pictures of flowers, my whole body responds; my heart seems moving up in my chest, I’m transformed, and spirits take me over.

I’m not sure what is happening, but it is powerful, and I am grateful for it. I’m back to Flower Art, and please feel free to come along for the right.

It was breezy, warm, and beautiful today. Spring might be a couple of months away, but it showed itself today, a tease, maybe. Sue is getting good at steering me to the right flowers.

I tried the monochrome on the Irises.

I appreciate the softness of the Leica.

I always look for the sun behind the flowers I am trying to photograph. Irises are great for that.

Another soul of a flower.

The Leica once again for softness.

  1. I love Astromeria! They are my favorite cut flowers for bouquets. They reliably open into flowers when the purchased stems have closed buds (unlike, say, Roses), they last a solid couple of weeks, and they come in a variety of colors. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Fun Facts: They are sometimes called an Inca or Peruvian lily because their natural habitat is in the cool mountain regions of Chile, Brazil and Peru.

    1. I was going to share the same info on Peruvian lilies! I love them for their long-lasting quality in bouquets, and beautiful colors. There were also my mother-in-love’s favorites, and they always remind me of her. Enjoy them, Jon!

  2. The color and form of even the “simplest” of flowers is a miracle. I am also transformed when I photograph flowers.

  3. When I had a florist shop, I would buy plants at local greenhouses….greenhouses filled with orchids or red poinsettia had the effect of making my heart beat faster. It was the oddest sensation. But very cool. Flowers can do that. So I get what you mean.
