Meeting Zip In The Snow: (Zip Notecards On Sale On Etsy). Is It True That Cats Own People?

by Jon Katz

I sat on the back porch with Zip (above); we watched the snow for half an hour. It’s a unique and pleasing way to start the day. And I wasn’t late today. He loves sitting on my shoulder while I scratch his neck. I love the purring sound.

I should also mention that now that the holiday is past, Maria has put her long-awaited Zip notecards on sale on her Etsy Page. She has already sold 50 packs and has at least another 50.

We worked to pick out our favorite Zip photos out of the hundreds taken. Is it true, I wonder, that cats own people?

The six-pack Zip notecards sell for $25 plus $5 shipping. They measure 5 1/4″ x 5 1/2.”

Zip is the most photogenic animal we’ve yet seen on the farm. He is a ham, and he loves to pose. You can see the notecards and purchase them here.

  1. I learned long ago that the household order goes as follows; feline, human then canine. My godparents had a farm and we discovered that the cats would boss our border collie around even when he was at work.

  2. “…the vibrations produced by a cat’s purr have demonstrated the ability to decrease blood pressure, alleviate stress, and even aid in the process of healing.” That’s from https://elgatovet.com/blog/the-fascinating-science-behind-a-cats-purr/ Most of my cats have “come off my deck” — not had a place to live. Once we get ourselves sorted out, I’ve noticed that they all pick a “thing” to take care of. Since there are usually a couple in the house, they don’t have to work so hard. When my children were small, the neutered toms were nannies. When the kids came down with the usual sniffles and fevers, the cats were in attendance. The several times I’ve had surgeries, the cats were there purring me to sleep, checking me out, nurturing. You’ve been writing about finding a new balance in your life and getting there. I would not be surprised if Zip does not believe you are part of his loving responsibility to care for as well as a source of great neck scratches. (NOTE about those neck scratches, I never said it was a one-way deal. Cats are giving care-takers, but they’re also not stupid. I have a wonderful memory of one of my toddlers carefully sharing his dry Cheerios with Jacob, is feline nanny — one for me and one for you)
