24 December

Bedlam Farm Journal, Sunday, December 24, 2023: Zip At The Window, Leonard Bernstein On The Screen, November Gloom, Cookies For The Needy

by Jon Katz

Sunday, the day before Christmas, is a classic dark day, wet and gloomy. We just dropped some cookies off at the American Legion for tomorrow’s community Christmas dinner. We will be delivering dinner to five families that couldn’t travel to the dinner set up for tomorrow.

We can’t think of a better thing to do on Christmas.

Today, we’re heading to Massachusetts to see Maestro, the Leonard Bernstein movie, on a big screen with a small bucket of fresh, slightly buttered popcorn. This is how I love to see movies; the mysteries are found on streaming. Bernstein is more significant than that.

I hope to write about it. We’ll pick up some takeout Asian food and bring it home. There is no farmer’s market today. I miss the market, and I especially miss the Lobster rolls. I bought enough soap from Cindy, our goat lady friend, for the winter. It’s the best soap I’ve ever used.

Above, I was late for my morning meeting with Zip, and he was annoyed. Zip’s head popped up in the window when I went into the bathroom to shower. I was startled but laughed. Zip is more significant than life, and he knows what he wants. He also gets what he wants. He didn’t get me, though; I don’t have time to meet with him this morning.

Merry Christmas everyone.  See you later.

I love out-of-focus photos that capture movement and make people think a bit. The camera loves Maria.

We got some too-old apples in a box from the food co-op. The donkeys love them—an apple for Fanny.

Classic dark days gloom, but still,  a beautiful vision.

Hay in the read. Everyone is wet and hungry. Ice storm this morning.

Maria is in focus. I love taking soft-focus photos; they capture movement and hard work.

  1. Oh, wow, that says so much that Zip would come looking for you. He is so touchingly bonded to you.
Your photos show so much versatility! It would never occur to me to try all the things you’ve come up with. Definitely one of your deep talents.
Keep enjoying experimenting and we’ll keep enjoying them on our end.
As you’re already enjoying a meaningful Christmas I don’t know how to phrase my wishes, but always the best of everything to yourself ,Maria, and the animals.
