Dollar Store: Getting Christmas Trinkets For the Mansion “Ugly” Sweater Party.

by Jon Katz

We’ve moved into high gear for the Manion’s “Ugly Christmas” party just before Christmas. Army of Good Soldiers sent some sweaters, and Maria and I collected some. We’re returning to the Senior Center thrift shop on Monday to get a dozen more. Today, we went to the Dollar Star to fill a cart with Christmasy things and decorations.

Some sweaters have Christmas markings, and those that don’t will be given some. Maria and Paryese, the Mansion Activity Director, will help the residents fix their sweaters and make them “ugly” if they aren’t already. My job is to collect the sweaters.

I’m figuring out how to use the Dollar Store and Thrift and Consignment stories to help the residents at the lowest possible prices.  A cartload of Christmas decorations was $34.

The residents are excited about this party; we will ensure they have what they need. Thanks for your support, those who donated, and those who sent their discarded sweaters to Paryese, The Mansion, 11 S. Union Avenue, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. I think we will be all set on Monday or Tuesday. At the Senior Center, a bag of discarded sweaters costs $5.

  1. Is it too late to send an ugly Christmas sweater? I have one, but I couldn’t mail it yet, because we had a snow storm on Friday & Saturday, I can mail it on Monday
