The “Ugly” Sweater Party: We Struck Gold At A Senior Citizen Thrift Store. Today Was $5 A Bag Day. I’ll Be Back.

by Jon Katz

The Mansion “Ugly Sweater” Christmas Party is picking up speed. I’ve visiting my network of thrift shops and consignment stores and found sweaters everywhere. We struck gold at the Senior Citizen’s Thrift Store. People from the Army of Good are also beginning to send discarded sweaters, Christmas or just plain. If you wish to contribute, you can send discarded sweaters, Christmas or not, to Paryese, The Mansion, 11 S. Union Avenue, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816; we only need about a dozen more.

Above are two workers at the Senior Citizen’s Thrift Shop in Cambridge. They knew all about “ugly” Christmas sweaters; we could buy as many as we wanted for $5 a bag. I got two bags and drove them over to the Mansion. Seeing these charming and committed women sorting, cleaning, and hanging so many things was great. Maria was in heaven.

We bought two wine glasses to replace some broken ones.

The Senior Senior Thrift Shop is a favorite fabric hunting ground for Maria. There is a ton of stuff, all $5 a bag/

I brought two bags -14 sweaters – over to the Mansion. They are piling up. I also special ordered three sweaters for Mansion residents who need special sizes.
