Zip is a busy carn cat. He comes out for meals and stops for some scratching and rubbing, then he vanishes, presumably to hunt through the pastures and our marsh, which he loves.
We see the remnants of rats here and there; he is getting a fuller belly.
He always comes out to see me but doesn’t hang around long. He has things to do. He’s gotten rid of most of the pigeons, and we haven’t seen a rat for a long time. Whenever I go out and sit on one of the chairs, he appears and hops into my lap.
Today Maria and I are going to Williamstown for some Asian food and a movie, “Anatomy Of A Fall.” We needed a barn cat more than we knew. He knows how to do it; he stays far from the road, has examined every corner of the farm, and has at least three or four favorite sleeping places I have found.
Zip has no desire to come into the house, and we have no desire to invite him in. He is restless and active; there is nothing for him in the house.
Zip has settled into life on the farm. He makes sure to visit me once or twice, but he has a lot of work to do and is into it. He is a working cat in every sense of the term.
I need a fella like this to tackle chipmunks in Louisville.
I recall when you got him, you said he had a brother that the owners were having a hard time catching. I seem to remember you posting that you would take both of you could. Would you still? Is there enough work for two barn cats? Just curious as I’ve had a barn but never a barn cat.
Zip is fine for us we don’t need another.
You will have to watch for tape worm and round worm which will show up in his stool. Eat rodents has its problems.
He will be tested serveral times a hear, as our other cats have been..
Great life for Zip, so glad he came to you Jon and Maria
What do you have for him to sleep in and stay warm when it is freezing?
a cat bad, as I’ve mentioned many times..
I am back to your blog after years away, and I came back to the blog as I could not find any more of your books on my shelves to read! Enjoying the blog so much, you speak to my heart about life…..our animals, and our beloved human companions, and your photos give me joy.
Welcome back
