This morning, Sue Silverstein send me the best work yet from her gifted 10th grad art class. Maria and I were both amazed by what Sue called puzzle art, more great work compiled by the good hearts of the Army Of Good who send the materials that made this project come to life. Pick a puzzle, and go through some doors. This art was made possible by the discarded objects people find all over their homes and attacks and garages.
Sue’s message: “So months ago, someone sent this amazing collection of tiny puzzles. I wanted to do something special with them and kept trying to find an idea. I have this awesome Studio Art Class this year so I said- here’s a canvas, pick a puzzle, most of the images are small doors. Tell me where this door leads! They amazed me! The doors led to undersea adventures, castles, and New York City streets! Who says kids only play video games? They surprise me all the time! “
Sue surprises me all the time. We will see her next week and visit the art class and the students.
This is yet another powerful argument for sending your discarded objects – puzzles, games, jewelry, old clothes, handkerchiefs, wood, and acrylic paint and canvases (she always needs paint and canvases), etc. to Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, New York, 12304. This work would not have been possible without your support, and thank you.
Below are some images for you to look at; you made this art possible, and the art students tell me they are in heaven and off of TikTok when they are around Sue and her class. Sue is a genius at taking junk and discarded objects and turning them into art. She is revolutionizing art education.
Sue sent me a photo of her package. Thanks so much, whoever you are, you helped these kids make beautiful art. Sue says she is receiving boxes and packages almost every day. Thanks.
Maybe you didn’t notice, but the sender’s address label is up in the corner of the box. Anonymity denied.
