The Goose Migration: Heading South

by Jon Katz

One of the things I love about living in the country is that there is almost always something to see when I look up at the sky – a blue sky,  Ravens flying overhead, and in Spring and Fall, the amazing migrations of geese north or south. Hundreds, if not thousands, of geese, flew over the farm today; they make the most beautiful noises as they talk to one another and form the neatest and most graceful formations. I got this shot this morning.

They kept coming for a long time. My Leica just caught the tail end.

Their formations are one of nature’s great miracles.

  1. Do you know why one side of the “V” is always longer than the other? It’s because there’s more geese on one side.
(I bet your granddaughter would like this one.)
