Good Bye And Thanks. A Hard Frost Last Night. Thinking About Spring

by Jon Katz

We had a hard frost last night, and the remaining begonias and dahlias perished.

This weekend, I’m re-soiling the garden beds, putting the Tin Man back in the barn, spreading donkey manure, and raising the garden bed soil. As always, Zip showed up to help me pull out some of the dead flowers. He always seems to be where I go.

I’ve ordered some beautiful plants for next year. I’m gearing up for the winter pasture, a beautiful time here.

The Tin Man will get time off in the barn this winter. He did an excellent job. Thanks, Ed

Zip was present, supervising.

After two rainy days, the sun came out, and the temperature dropped. It’s time for November, the wet and cold month. The Blue Sky was radiant, and the clouds were spectacular. I realize how closely my mood is tied to the color and light outside.

  1. Wow! The header photo for this post is amazing! The flowers are as beautiful in their demise…..as they were in the prime of their life! Just gorgeous photo!

  2. I see a potential future change to your weekend getaways. Did you know there is a free to visit garden conservatory at Smith College?

You’re giving your gardens great care. You’ve learned well.

  3. Me too. Didn’t have a garden or flowers this year due to health problems. However, 2024 is a new year and better things to come. It is sad to see our flowers come to such a sad end. I’m looking forward to the new season.
