Casey At The Farmer’s Market:”My Worst Fear Is Failure….” Beautiful And Favorite Faces From The Farmer’s Market.

by Jon Katz

I asked Casey Face – she’s just a few weeks away from having her Horse Trailer ready for something new – what her biggest fair is as D-Day for her new business gets closer. “I guess I’m afraid of failure,” she said. “I haven’t experienced that yet in my life.”

Good for you, I said; our fear of failure keeps us creative and focused. I went to the Cambridge Market to see Casey, and she’s working hard to connect with bakers, farmers, and coffee makers.

She had her SUV and table all set up; today, she was selling coffee, cider donuts, mulled cider, and tea. The tea was beautiful, and so was the coffee Maria had. By the time she’s pulling her refurbished horse wagon, she’ll be selling breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods.

She says she fends off her nerves by keeping busy. Casey, the mother of two toddlers, and her husband Bryan, a pilot who flies for FedEx, know how to be active, but I’m not sure she knows how to rest. She designed the interior of her new house and is designing the interior of the horse wagon; she is also the loving mother of two small children. You can start to follow Casey’s work here.

Maria Emma and I are heading to Williamstown to see the movie “Bottoms” and eat some Asian food. It’s excellent heaving Emma here. She and Zip are wildly in love, as expected.

But Casey is a dreamer, and the coffee, tea, and sandwich dream seems to have stuck. She’s doing it the right way, moving carefully and gathering supporters and fellow coffee-makers for support. Her father is not finishing the estimates and costs; she’s ready. She isn’t sending her kids – 3 mos and three years old – to daycare. She and Bryan plan to take care of them when things get busy. Casey wants her girls to be a part of this. I will follow Casey at every step as this dream is planned and comes to life.

She is impressive – strong, intelligent, cautious, creative and determined. She reminded me today of the first day we met in the basement of a church where the winter farmer’s market was being held. “I was pretty much also

ne,” she said, “I don’t think I made $20. But she hung in there and kept learning and experimenting and networking. She’s already come a considerable way and is just getting started.

I believe in her; it is a pleasure to chronic her march toward her dream; it’s betting close. Stay tuned. Casey is the real deal.

I took beautiful pictures at the farmers market, faces of the community, people I love and respect, and my friends. They always want to know how I am doing.

My favorite faces from the farmer’s market:

Cindy has become one of my favorite people; she runs a goat farm with her husband, Jerry. We have become good friends, and this week, I think we may get to have our meditation class together. She works day and night; meditating might be helpful, I believe.  She works hard but has a sweet and gentle soul, and she makes lovely soap (www. cazacrez.com)

Dan is a longtime friend, a teacher, and musician. He has the most beautiful face for a photographer to capture. He is also one of the most excellent men.

Matt Chinian is one of the most gifted landscape artists I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He specializes in local scapes. He calls me occasionally when he goes out to paint the landscape of our town; I love doing that. It’s fascinating to watch him in action. He has pursued his dreams. I’ll be going out with him to take photos of a brilliant artist at work soon.

Great art can be made in hours. He’s also a good man.

Caseu at her farm stand. She is impressive; I’m rooting for her to make it. Blessed are those who follow their dreams.

  1. Lovely post! It’s a treat to meet the local folks. The links you included aren’t working correctly, but that’s an easy fix. Cheers!
