Laundry day is one of my favorite photo days. We save a lot of water by letting clothes dry on a clothesline, but it’s also an iconic and beautiful symbol of country and family life.

Laundry Day, Clothesline
by Jon Katz
I remember the days of standing tubs so the rinse water could be used for the next load. Then the clothes were put through the ringer and hung on the line to dry. In the winter the clothes were hung in the basement at our house and the moisture helped raise the humidity. I loved the smell of sheets dried outdoors.
I know there was a time when your blog didn’t include these wonderful photos but I can hardly remember it. Things change as they grow and I’m so glad that they do. I so enjoy reading the blog as well as seeing the beautiful photos.
Keep it up just like it is.
There’s a wonderful book with directions for being all natural called Clean and Green bu Berthold- Bond. I’ve always brought it with me for 20+ years. Has (485) helpful tips such as add a couple of tablespoons to laundry rinse water to prevent freezing. I think I found it again for like $3.00 on abebooks.com. beautiful photo!
A couple of tablespoons of what, Cynthia?
I still hang my laundry on a clothes line. I’m the only one in my neighborhood who does it. It brings me back to a time when I was a child. My mom would always ask me to go downstairs and take the clothes down from the line. Since my mom is no longer with us, it gives me some comfort to go back to a time of more simplicity and innocence.
