A New Experiment: Using my 50 MM Lens To Take Some Flower Photos.

by Jon Katz

When I got my Leica SLR-S, a Mirrorless Camera, it came with a 50 mm lens. I didn’t think it was useful for the kind of flower photography I am learning to do, so I never used it much except as an everyday lens for taking photos of the farm. I came across some research on the Mirrorless Camera trend, and I found that one photographer recommended the 50 mm as a perfect camera for flower photography.

This surprised me, and I’m not sure why I never tried it out on flowers, so I took it out today and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t get as close as m 105 mm,  but it is clear and captures color beautifully and with depth. It is the only Leica lens I have; I can’t afford to buy any of them. This is a pleasant discovery.

These are the first two pictures I took with the 50 mm. I’m going to get to know it better. It’s a rare day that I don’t learn something about my photography.
