Heat Alert. Free Summer Flower Show, Hot And Sexy Stuff. Come And See

by Jon Katz

I’ve learned a lot about concussions this week, and I understand that it’s okay to work, but only for a while, and that I have to rest in between. I’m not great at relaxing, but I’m trying very hard. We are in one of those heat alerts, and it’s rough out here today; I only went outside in short bursts.

I did drive Maria around to get cat supplies for Zip, and I went down to see Judy Page and get a seed catalog for the 2024 flower bed. There are some beautiful flowers in the record, and I’m excited about next year. I can’t sleep at night, but I can hardly stay awake during the day. Go figure, the brain is a mystery. Nobody seems to know how it works, but they sure know it when it isn’t.

I’m looking for a new book; I’ve caught up to speed with this time resting. I’m thinking about an Adam Dalgleish mystery. I have two waiting for me.  More later, I’ve got to rest now. I’m making Chickpea pasta with plant sausage for dinner.

I’m in a Georgia O’Kkeefe mindset today, close in and stylish, my mysterious pink Lisianthus.

I caught the afternoon sun, which was power, coming through this flower. It lit up my little world. I don’t know the name of this one.

I l love the curving lines. Dahlias can be sensual and surprising.

I thought of a tiger’s claw. The dahlias love the warm sun.

I have some bandit pansies hiding in the greenery.

When it gets this hot, the Imperious Pens go deep under the lilac bush to find shade and be cool. The worms get a lunch break.

  1. As someone who loves PD James and Dagliesh, I was wondering if you have read any of Donna Leon’s series featuring the Venetian policeman, Brunetti. Excellent writing and plot development. Have to admit I binge read them.
Hope you continue to heal – really enjoy your blog and the photos.

  2. I just finished reading “Dirt Road Revival: How to Rebuild Rural Politics and Why our Future Depends on It” by Chloe Maxim and Canyon Woodward. It is terrific!! I watched the video before ordering the book. This link gives more info about the book, its authors and a link to the film https://www.dirtroadrevival.com/#about

I know you are no longer interested in getting sucked into reading about our current political environment. But these authors are in their 20s and give me great hope for the future. Chloe won her state House seat in the most rural district of the most rural state. Canyon was her campaign manager. They went on to earn Chloe a seat in the state Senate 2 years later. I think you may find that some of their perspectives on rural America are similar to your own.

You can watch the film to get the basic idea. However, I really recommend reading the book. It includes some history of the Democrats abandoning rural America, then a summary of their two campaigns, followed by the strategies they used and how they put them into practice. Their strategies focus on listening to their community, reaching out to Independents and Republicans as well as Democrats, focusing on shared values and goals, using what they learned from their involvement in climate change social movements, and lots of face to face contact with voters.

  3. Hi Jon, rarely suggest things, but I have enjoyed black bean pasta for years.
Protein and very little carbs per serving.
