Moment Photos And Moments: Donkeys In Silhouette, Ellen Can’t Hold Zinnia Until Her Nails Dry

by Jon Katz

I took two neat moment photos today – the donkeys in silhouette as they shaded themselves from the sun, above and below, a fun moment in Memory Care.

When Zinnia and I arrive, Ellen is always the first to sit out in the soft, waiting to hug Zinnia. Today, she seemed distressed, and when I asked her what the matter was, she held up her hands to show me that she had just polished her nails and couldn’t touch Zinnia until they dried. One of the aides timed her and told her when it was okay.

As shown on her face, this was a long wait for her.

But it worked out. In ten minutes,

she was sitting on her couch with Zinnia practically in her lap. She still held her nails out to make sure they were dry. All was well. Ellen sees herself as Zinnia’s No. 2 owner and keeps bugging me to let her sleep over in her room. I keep telling her New York State won’t allow it; she doesn’t seem to care. We laugh a lot together.
