There are two levels of creativity for me to focus on when I think of and take my garden photos. They are never simply photos of flowers; they are a garden of my mind, imagined before they are planted, purchased, or raised.
In my mind, I’m not just taking a photo of a pretty flower – aren’t they all lovely? I’m creating a garden of the mind, a place of softness, colors, and community.
I never think of just one flower; I think of where they are, what they are, and how they connect, reflect, and supplement one another. I always look for a centerpiece for the reader to zero in on and a sea of color around them.
My flowers are always looking over their shoulders at what the other guy is doing. In my mind, they are distinctly aware of one another.
Every day I pick a different centerpiece that draws the viewer to the heart of the picture. Less is more, but there are no absolute rules of creativity. I go where the heart takes me.
