I’m playing hooky from work to see “Oppenheimer” in a Vermont theater 5 minutes away. Maria has a belly dancing class tonight, she’s not sure she wants to see it, and if the movie is as good as I think and expect, we can go see it this weekend, probably in Williamstown.
I imagine I’ll be happy to see it again. And I could use the afternoon off.
I know the movie will not be cheerful or uplifting, but neither is life all of the time.
I want to be positive, but I never want to hide from reality. I’ve read almost everything written about J. Robert Oppenheimer, a genius who changed the world and was tormented by his achievement for the rest of his life.
Whenever I think about the bomb, I also think about what would have happened to the world if the Nazis had gotten their first.
It will probably be too late tonight when I get back to write a coherent essay about the movie; if I decide to do it, I’ll do it in the morning after some sleep.
In the meantime, here are today’s flower photos. My garden bed is making a beautiful comeback, and I hope to capture every bit of it.
I went deep into the souls of the flowers this time.
Art flowers in the morning.
I don’t have time for captions; the flowers speak for themselves.
Special thanks to my Lisanthus flowers; they are leading the charge back to color and character.
Have a good and meaningful day, and thanks again for your good words and support.
I can’t wait to read your review of “Oppenheimer”. I grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the very existence of which can be owed to him. I’m eager to see the movie, but am waiting until my little local theater has it starting next week.
