Fighting The Wet And The Dark: Stacking The Firewood

by Jon Katz

Maria went out to battle the rain and the darkness to stack the new firewood that had arrived a few days ago. Usually, we leave the new firewood out to dry; it is heavy and moist when it comes. But that process has become more complicated since it’s been rainy every day.

We’ve been putting a tarp over the wood to try and keep it dry, but when we get a few hours of sunshine, it can be stacked and dry out in the shed. Maria decides.

Last night, she went out just before dark and pulled the tarp back.

She decided to stack out for 45 minutes or so until it was too dark to see. Then we watched the Endeavor (Morse) mystery on Amazon Prime.

She loves doing this work. I love eating popcorn while watching a first-rate British mystery.  I am also loving the new Colson Whitehead mystery Crook Manifesto. He’s a wonderful writer with a brilliant gift for mystery. He’s soaring up on my best mystery list.

  1. We have the same taste in shows and books. No I won’t send you a book. Lol. I read some books by
Anne Cleeves. They are great and I have been watching Vera for years so it was g[d seeing the difference in the books. The show kept her in character.
    Thanks for the book suggestions.
