Life In The Bedlam Farm Rain Forest. All Day, Every Day.

by Jon Katz

Another day in the Bedlam Farm Rain Forest, head, sun, storm clouds, rain, thunder, and lightning. One after the other, day after day. The weather channels have gone bonkers trying (and often failing) to predict the weather.

So their new thing is likely to report (“Chance of Extreme Weather,” or my favorite: storms likely. “Severe Thunderstorm Watch” and the new daily warning “Flood watch until Sat 2: a.m.”

Let’s face it; nobody knows what is going on. The farm is soaking and sponge-like, the grass squishes whenever we step on it, the barn is a mud bath, and we can’t keep it dry.

This photo caught the feeling today, the sun shining even as menacing clouds keep appearing and blocking it out. Rain follows, on and off, all day, day after day.

We don’t nearly have it worse than the tens of millions under severe heat warnings. My heart goes out to them. Like it or not, the weather may finally unite us all again. No matter which side of the spectrum you are on, you are seeing Mother Nature send a powerful and persuasive message.

  1. Central California here. 105 today, 107-108 this weekend. Such joy. Fortunately, the power grid is holding and I have solar so I won’t get socked with a high bill to pay.
