Photo Journal, Tuesday, July 18. Some Flowers Can Really Take Care Of Themselves

by Jon Katz

The lights are flashing, and the thunder is booming, and lightning is crashing all around us.  It’s starting to pour.

This might be a good time to turn off the computer and check on the animals.

Tomorrow I’m taking my good friend Ron Dotson to see the Memory Care Unit at the Mansion. The weather is relentlessly erratic. I am allergic to something I eat and braking in hives and rashes.

I’m going through the things I ate in my mind to figure it out; I’m focusing on some menthol cough drops. I took it last night.

Anyway, it’s pouring outside; these are photos of my comeback flowers; they are holding their own against the wind and the rain.

I have some art photos to put up when and if the storm stops. Later.

I’m loving purple.

The Japanese Beetles are assaulting my roses. We are fighting back. In one afternoon, the trap is filling up. This is war. I’m adding a second trap.

My “echo mix” Lisianthus is opening up in just one day. She has grace.

The Raven is never quiet. I think he scares the deer away.

A rose born in Bedlam. I’m working to keep the beetles away; they got two other beautiful flowers before I got the traps up.

  1. The Lisianthus is really beautiful. It is a flower I was not familiar with. Thanks for introducing it to me.
