Washing And Smoothing The Linens. The Hands Of An Artist

by Jon Katz

One of Maria’s blog readers sent her a box of beautiful vintage napkin linens. Maria loved them, washed them, and then sat them on the dining room table. I loved watching this beautiful and iconic process and took some pictures.

I was drawn to Maria’s hands, moving confidently and efficiently over the lines, smoothing them out, admiring them, and getting to know them. I was watching the hands of an artist; it was lovely to see.

Below, the linens are all stacked.

Each of the linens was now in her head; she would remember it and find one when needed.
