Good Monday Morning: The Rain Flowers. Flood Alerts Everywhere. I’m Rescuing Some…

by Jon Katz

I’m heading to the Mansion Memory Care Unit this morning with Zinnia to visit the residents. They are looking forward to our visits, and so am I. Tomorrow I go back to my Meditation Class. We are on a flood alert there, it’s been pouring on and off for several days, and the forecasts say we will get between four and seven inches of rain today and Tuesday morning.

The flower bed is taking another pounding; some of the flowers are falling off, especially the Begonias, which are fragile when the flowers get heavy. I brought several in the house this morning; we put them in water and enjoyed them inside. More later. Everyone out there is suffering – rain,  heat, drought, smoke. Flowers distract me.

Even soaked, flowers have their beauty.

Nothing bothers the Nasturtium leaves; they collect water and put it to good use.

The water on my newest flower caught my eye right away.

Two of the rescue flowers I brought inside. Behind them is a pile of vintage linens Maria washed and sorted out.
