Can My Portrait Lens Do A Better Job On Flowers? So Far, So Good…

by Jon Katz

Yesterday, I experimented with taking flower photos with my Dogma wide-angle lens and Leica SLR-2 Mirrorless. This morning, I tried taking some pictures with my 55. mm, portrait lens, I’ve only used it on people.

I only do portraits of people I like or love. Why not try the same idea on flowers?

I was happy with it. When I want to get a close-up of a particular flower, I will now consider it a portrait.

This flower has a heart

There is no rhyme or reason to the way I plant flowers; I grow them all in our donkey-enriched soil and let them do their stuff. The more chaotic, the better.

I focus on one flower and let the others speak up. I see them as supporting the; they make each other look wonderful. One is always connected to the others.

  1. A beautiful effect and I love the reminder that one is always connected to the others.

  2. I think these are the very best flower photos you’ve taken. I love the focus on one flower with the others in supporting roles.

  3. Your flower beds are so lovely, full of color, warmth, free spirit. I see the comfortable blending of the many differences working to produce peace and harmony. I know that is what you are working for in life. You have
achieved it in your flower beds. Thank you for this gift you share with us.
