Portraits: Introducing Some Flowers, Photo By Photo. I Call Them Centerpiece Flowers, Flowers You’ll Be Getting To Know

by Jon Katz

A slightly different experimentation with my flower taking. Today, I decided to take portraits of some of the most vivid and beautiful flowers in my garden bed. I love pictures and taking portraits of people I love; the same goes for flowers.

So today, the art show is about the faces of flowers and the community they create and share. I’m interested in the idea of a floral community formed by different flowers working to come together.

Over the weekend, I’ll look for red, white, and blue flowers to honor the country we live in and fight for.

I call these ” centerpiece ” flowers that stand out and center many of my photos. They are all flowers and colors I expect you’ll be seeing over the summer.

I am drawn to deep blue and purple colors in flowers.

Gaura white flowers, delicate and butterfly-like.

The poppies never stop popping up and down; they never quit, and are continuously colorful and interesting.

The Canna lilies catch my eye repeatedly, and they are different every time I look at them.

The snapdragons are unruly but always beautiful and soft.

I’m very interested in the idea of community flowers, flowers that work together and form a community, feeding each other and holding each other up. This photo felt like a community to me.

  1. When I was a little girl, we had a beautiful flower garden and I remember sitting in it and playing with the snapdragons. I would squeeze their sides together and pretend they were talking to each other. Snapdragons have been my favorite flower since then. Thanks for the memory.
