I’ve never met Dale Sperling, but he is a faithful reader of the blog and a member of the Army Of Good. Earlier this year, he drove two hours from his home in upstate New York to bring Sue Silverstein a truckload of wood for the students to paint on.
He has e-mailed me and we stay in touch.
Yesterday, he showed up with another truckload of art supplies for Sue’s amazing art program at Bishop Gibbons High School.
“He brought tons of great markers, paper, yarn, and wood boards,” Sue told me, “he said he is a long-time Army Of Good fan.”
I’m a longtimeĀ Dale Sperling fan. Thanks, Dale.
Sue asked me to put the word out to AOG people not to throw their old shutters away. She can use them for her art students to paint on. The young artists are asking for them.
If anyone has any, please consider sending them to Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304. And thanks.
She can always use discarded things she turns into art – jewelry, vintage clothes, old toys –Ā and is in need of paint supplies, canvas boards, crayons, and markers. We are planning a Bishop Gibbons Art Supply Amazon Art Supply Wish List in August. Stay tuned, and thanks for your support.
Dale, you are an angel.
Well, what a delight to see my happy face! In actuality, we have met once on the occasion of your book tour stop at that marvelous book store in Columbus, Ohio. I had a few words to share with Maria about her (then) recent visit to the Holocaust Memorial in Washington, DC. She and I had had similar experiences after spending time there: unable to utter words at all for a long time afterwords. Sue arranged to meet me at the school; she was doing year-end cleaning and straitening. She mentioned in particular the clothing she was sorting and organizing to offer to those many students who need it…which led me to begin gathering much of my own clothing that I no longer need, to mail to her. Speaking of angels: Sue is surely one!
Thanks for this Dale, you are a good person.
