Today, we honor the brave people who have died over time-fighting to protect our democracy. At this time, when our democracy is under siege by totalitarian politicians, it is imperative to remember them. Here at Bedlam Farm, we are a peaceable kingdom; we live in love and peace. And we know what it means to be free, even though it is easy for many to forget.
I went outside with my camera to capture some images of the farm; there was so much beauty all around. There was Maria talking to her hands – she spoke to all the animals daily, usually more than once. There is art everywhere in the house, the windowsills, the bathroom, we have windowsill galleries. And the brave and loud Pansies, who usher in the Spring.
And there, this morning, is a yellow Iris, just like the ones the old timers had in their gardens.
We are heading to have crepes for lunch at our Little Paris food stand in Greenwich, and maybe I’ll find another plant for my garden. Today, I am grateful to be free, and grateful to the people who gave me that gift with their lives. My grandmother, a refugee from Stalin’s Russia, taught me the meaning of being free. I won’t forget it. I’m happy to share these mages with you, they are where my happiness and hope lie.
I call this a “radiant soul.” A portrait should try to capture the soul of a subject. I only take portraits of people I love or like. Maria has a radiant soul.

A yellow Iris greeted us this morning. The old farm wives loved them.

Maria loves farm chores; today, planting the 2023 Dahlia garden at Bedlam Farm.
You and Maria have brought a wonderful amount of beauty into the world. Your farm, your flowers, your animals, Maria’s art, and especially yourselves. Thank you.
Jon your pictures and words are just bursting with optimism and hope. They are simply a joy to look at. I think you are surging ahead with your life now that you have successfully dealt with your personal health items. I am so glad to see the happiness flooding your life and blog.
Sharon, thank you, that means a lot. My life and work tell me that people are good and want to do good. I think that will take us to a good place, just where it’s taking me. I appreciate your message very much.
