Scrambling To Save Our Flowers. Winter Returns Tonight To Show Some Teeth

by Jon Katz

Mother nature always reminds me she is the boss, not the weather people. This cold was not predicted until yesterday.

The temperatures will go below freezing tonight, and the winds are cold and fierce. We are scrambling tonight to save our gardens and the flowers we planted a few weeks before we were supposed to.

We used tarps, bags, bricks, logs, sheets, and grocery bags to cover the flowers we saw as vulnerable.

I’m a bit nervous. I’ve already put in a lot of work on these flowers and worked hard this afternoon to save them.

Seed and dog food bags were enlisted in the rush.

We put tomato baskets over the poppies, my latest flowers. We had to rush; Maria had to leave for her belly dancing class early. I think we’re all covered, but the wind is fierce and continuous, the combination of winter cold and strong winds is unnerving when it comes to flowers.

We put a ton of brinks and logs all over around the tarp. If it holds up, we should be all right.

I know that if we can keep the frost on top of the flowers and not right on them, we might be all right. It should be warming up tomorrow.

  1. you are educating yourself and will make the decisions that will be right for you, of that I have no doubt. I have friends who have gone either way……implants…….. and *day* bridges, or nothing at all except a missing tooth. Neither opted for implants……and both have been happy with their decisions……so….it is up to each person to choose what is best. You will choose wisely, I know! And you are prepared for a frost, good for you! May your beautiful new flowers survive well!
