Robin, A Child No Longer, On Governor’s Island, New York City

by Jon Katz

Well, I see my granddaughter is not a little toddler anymore. I’ll avoid the sappy renting-about grandkids I often hear about; bragging about their grandchildren is the national pastime of older people. The photos speak for themselves and my daughter Emma’s excellent photography skills.

This photo speaks to Robin’s beauty and the purity and enthusiasm for life that fortunate children have. Looks like Governor’s Island in the background for me, and the Statue of Liberty in the background.

Emma is a first-class photographer; her ability to compose a photograph makes her pop swell with pride. The grandkid is pretty special, also. What a great place for a bright and enthusiastic child with a devoted mother and father to grow up in.

Emma has an excellent gift for scenes and images that capture Robin’s personality, confidence, and joy in life.

I’m grateful for these pictures; without them, I would struggle to know Robin and understand who she is in life. Her energy just radiates in these photographs.

Emma and I often speak through her photography, she is wise beyond her years.

  1. I love her photos too. They are like poetry without the words. They make me pause and study every detail and smile at how happy childhood can be when parents are doing their job the right way. This has to make you both joyful and proud.
